An early start as we had booked the train to Washington D.C.
The train journey was very pleasant if uneventful. Through Pittsburgh, Baltimore and even past another Aberdeen. we got to DC around 10.30.
Union Station in Washington is a wonderful building and right outside we caught the hop on hop off bus.
There were two loops to the hop-on-hop-off and we managed to do both of these, just, before our return rail trip back. We literally toured all of Washington on the bus and it just whetted my appetite for a longer trip to the nation's capital.
On the train on the way back to NYC, we picked up on the news of the Boston marathon bombing and could not quite comprehend what had happened. Back in the city, there was a major security exercise in full swing, with a high police presence at the station and on the sidewalks outside MSG.
We popped to the Flying Puck for a beer or two before heading back to the hotel where we found out more about the bombings via the wall to wall news on the tv. We spotted high security at the White House which, had it been in place just a few hours earlier, we would not have been able to get a good close view and such great pics. We anticipated higher security at the airports too. So going home might be fun....
